Kinlo

Privacy Policy

Effective October 23, 2026

Kinlo is a push-to-talk app for your closest people, made by Bottor Technologies Inc. (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA). It's built like a walkie-talkie: what's heard or seen once disappears. This policy explains what Kinlo collects, why, and how long it keeps it. We don't sell your information, and Kinlo has no advertising or third-party tracking.

The short version

  • Live chirps (voice and video) travel through our real-time media provider and are not recorded by it.
  • So someone who missed a chirp can still hear or watch it, your device saves a copy. That copy is deleted as soon as everyone it was meant for has heard or watched it, or after 7 days if they never do. You can't replay chirps you've sent.
  • Your location is only used when you tap Drop the Lo. Kinlo reads it once (never in the background, never live tracking). It's deleted as soon as everyone it was sent to has seen it, or after 10 minutes.
  • You can delete your account at any time in Settings.

What we collect

Your account:

  • Your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code. It's never shown to other people.
  • Your username, display name, optional bio and optional profile photo, which the people you're connected to can see.
  • Your birth month and year, used only to confirm you're at least 16. They aren't shown to anyone.
  • Your settings: status (online, busy or quiet), who can find you by username, sounds and similar preferences.

Your connections: friends, friend requests, the frequencies (groups) you belong to, invitations, and the people you've blocked.

Chirps: the audio, and for video chirps the video, of what you send. Live chirps are relayed in real time. A copy is saved only so people who missed it can play it once, then it's deleted (see “How long we keep it”). We also keep short-lived records of who has heard each chirp, so we know when it can be deleted.

Location (only if you use Drop the Lo): one reading of your precise location (latitude, longitude and its accuracy), taken when you tap the button and sent only to the friend or frequency you chose. Kinlo asks for location access “While Using the App” only.

Device and app information: your phone's push notification tokens, including the token for lock-screen push-to-talk, so we can notify you. We also record when you last had Kinlo open, so friends can see whether you're online.

Safety reports: if you report someone, we keep what you reported, the reason and any details you add. If an account is suspended or banned, we keep a record of that.

How we use it

  • To run Kinlo: sign you in, connect you with friends and frequencies, deliver live chirps, notifications and Los, and let missed chirps be played once.
  • To keep people safe: enforce blocks, review reports, and suspend or ban accounts that break our Terms.
  • To keep Kinlo working and secure, for example preventing spam and abuse through rate limits.

We don't use your chirps, Los or connections for advertising, and we don't sell or rent your information.

Who can see what

  • Your profile is visible to your friends, to people you share a frequency with, and to people with a pending friend request with you. Others can find you by username only if your “Who can find you” setting allows it.
  • Chirps and Los go only to the friend or frequency you send them to. Blocked people never receive them.
  • Kinlo's administrators can see reports and the reported person's profile so they can act on them. They can't listen to chirps that have already been deleted.

Please remember that anyone you chirp could record their screen, or hold up another device. We can't prevent that, so only share what you're comfortable sharing.

Service providers

We use a few companies to run Kinlo. They handle your information only to provide their service to us:

  • Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage.
  • LiveKit: real-time relay of live voice and video. It doesn't record chirps.
  • Resend: sends your sign-in code emails.
  • Expo and Apple: deliver push notifications and lock-screen push-to-talk, and distribute the app.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or others.

How long we keep it

  • Chirps: deleted as soon as everyone they were meant for has heard or watched them; any never played are deleted after 7 days.
  • Los (locations): deleted as soon as everyone they were sent to has seen them, or 10 minutes after they were sent.
  • Your account, connections and settings: kept until you delete your account.
  • Online status: only your most recent check-in is kept.
  • Reports and suspensions: kept as long as needed to keep Kinlo safe.

Deleting your account and your choices

In Kinlo, go to Profile → Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile and photo, connections, the chirps and Los you've sent, and your devices. Reports you've made may be kept without your name attached.

  • You can edit your profile, turn notifications and lock-screen chirping on or off, and choose who can find you, at any time.
  • You can turn off location, microphone or camera access for Kinlo in your phone's Settings.
  • To ask for a copy of your information, or for any privacy question, email support@bottortechnologies.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights. We'll honor them as the law requires.

Age requirement

Kinlo is for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 16 is using Kinlo, report them in the app or email support@bottortechnologies.com, and we'll remove the account.

Security

Your information is protected by access rules enforced on our servers, and is encrypted in transit. Only the people you choose can receive your chirps and Los. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app. Questions? Email support@bottortechnologies.com or write to Bottor Technologies Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
