About Bottor Technologies
Assistive robotics and AI for reading and learning
We're a Milwaukee-based R&D company building the hardware and software to make reading and learning accessible — from patent-pending assistive robotics to AI-powered classroom tools.
Invited to submit an NSF SBIR Phase I proposal
After review of our Project Pitch, Bottor Technologies received an invitation from the National Science Foundation to submit a full SBIR/STTR Phase I proposal under the Learning and Cognition Technologies topic area — one of the most competitive funding pathways in the country for early-stage science and technology companies.
We are currently preparing the full Phase I submission, refining our technical research aims around adaptive page turning, embedded AI learning support, and real-time book perception systems.
Core Technology
Patent-pending assistive reading robotics
At the heart of Bottor Technologies is a patent-pending system for a standalone assistive reading device — a robot designed to help individuals with motor, visual, or cognitive reading barriers engage independently with physical books and printed materials.
The system integrates adaptive robotic page-manipulation mechanics, computer vision for real-time text detection and tracking, an OCR pipeline to convert printed pages into structured digital output, and embedded AI learning support — creating a seamless bridge between the physical world of print and the personalized assistance each reader needs.
Adaptive Page Turning
Motorized, sensor-driven mechanisms that respond to each reader's physical needs and pacing — enabling independent access to physical books.
Computer Vision
Real-time detection and tracking of text on physical pages, handling varied lighting, paper texture, and print layouts.
OCR Pipeline
Converting physical printed text into structured digital content — the bridge between the analog world of books and AI-driven reading support.
Accessibility AI
Personalized reading and learning support that adapts to individual needs, pacing, and accessibility requirements.
Our Mission
Reading and learning should be accessible to everyone. We build tools — hardware and software — that reduce friction, support independence, and respect how real people learn. We don't aim to replace educators or caregivers. We aim to give everyone a better shot at learning.
Where We Are
We're a small, focused team based in Milwaukee, WI — actively piloting Bottor Assist with classroom teachers, advancing our robotics research, and building toward NSF SBIR Phase I. WiggleWoo, our early literacy product, is nearing App Store launch.
